ARTISTS / Fiona Gibson

Each of my figures bears bold narratives from mythology, particularly Welsh, and explore themes around beauty, nature, metamorphosis and mystery. I like to make reference to the many stories and characters in history mostly through the female form, where symbolism plays an important part.

My intention is not to execute my work literally but rather to give a glimpse of the character behind the story.
I hand build each sculpture in solid clay with the aid of an armature, then hollow out prior to firing multiple times. I add layers of oxides, underglazes and glazes until I achieve the desired effect.
