I am an artist who really feels that it is important to reflect the life I live and the places I inhabit. I am really interested in local history and the natural world. South Wales is an amazing place to paint and a wonderful place to live. I am always stumbling across pieces of our industrial past. Laying amongst the bracken, standing alongside the river or peeking out from the trees, remnants of the grey old days of polluted water, slag heaps, iron workings and the ubiquitous colliery are here to be discovered amongst the natural beauty of the area.
These are the things that interest me and I will work in any medium I feel like using at the time. I often sketch ‘en plein air’ but I also make use of photography and keep an ‘on going’ photographic sketch book on my laptop.
I have a real love of painting which, for me, usually starts with a photograph or a drawing. I challenge myself to make something worthwhile, to create something of beauty that means something to me and hopefully stimulates others. If I can get people talking about the places I have made pictures of I am happy.
In 2019 I produced over 80 paintings and have been shown in two galleries in Wolverhampton as well as the Queen Street Gallery Neath. I have also produced two solo shows in pop up galleries in Taffs Well and Tongwynlais.
Although I graduated in 1983 with a BA in Visual Communications I have only been painting professionally since 2018. This is the happiest I have ever been. I love painting and I love art.
