Originally from Carmarthenshire, but living now in the beautiful Garw Valley near Bridgend. I have been painting for several years mostly in watercolour and nearly always land and seascapes, occasionally animals and portraits.
For the most part self-taught, except for several winters of evening classes with Peter Cronin, a professional Welsh watercolourist. Peters painting holidays in St. Nons, Pembrokeshire were a delight and opened my eyes to all things of the sea and painting outside in front of the subject.
So, my subject matter is varied, from boats and harbours, the canals of Neath, valley life, to the rugged mountains of Snowdonia with the odd puffin from Skomer and the wild ponies in the Beacons.
Painting outside in Wales is often a challenge but the light and atmosphere is inspiring as I try to capture the essence of the scene in front of me.
I exhibit my paintings in local galleries across South Wales and have a Facebook page called Vicki Washbourne Artist.
