Louise relies largely on improvisation to develop form and stops painting the face when she sees and connects with a recognisable human emotion.  The face may often be distorted and the colours unreal, but if she can see some thoughtful, life lived expression, then she will move on to decide who they are and paint in the body.  Louise often leaves the painting untitled to allow the viewer to decide what has just happened or what is about to happen.  Louise paints a fleeting moment and leaves the rest up to the viewer.

Louise takes inspiration from old black and white photos of people,  her own feelings and life experiences and from the observations of others.  Louise uses brushes, pallet knives, rags and fingers.  Scraping  and reapplying the paint quickly has always played an integral part of Louise’s painting process.  Louise generally improvises the colours from a limited pallet, often using paint straight from the tube to maintain the energy if in the throws of a promising piece.
