Creating a Concertina Sketchbook

Exploring Mixed Media and Printmaking with Artist Sasha Kingston

Sasha Kingston specialises in creating paper-textile artworks from her studio in Penarth. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art, Sasha's love of working with paper and mixed media as a creative medium has grown, incorporating drawn and printed marks to textured surfaces. Sasha is both artist and educator, regularly teaching art to young people and adults at different levels of their creative development.

The workshop will begin by observing natural forms, exploring their structure, texture, pattern and colour as inspiration for a personal concertina sketchbook.

Drawing and monoprinting techniques will be introduced, experimenting with different materials to produce a variety of expressive marks, textures and patterns.

Mixed-media processes will then be explored by combining drawings and prints, using layering and contrasting materials to create depth and visual interest.

These experiments will be developed into a concertina sketchbook, bringing together drawings, prints and mixed-media techniques to create a finished piece of artwork.

Materials will be provided, although personal drawing materials may be brought from home. The workshop is suitable for all abilities.
