Call Out: Noir
Noir
We’d like to invite artists to submit artwork to our Noir exhibition with artwork featuring a high contrast, minimal colour palette with black (noir) being the prominent colour.
‘Noir’ is French for black and is mostly associated with Film Noir, a genre of film popularised in the 1940s and 1950s with roots going back to German Expressionism films.
Film Noir is notable for its dark visuals with high contrast black and white cinematography and low key lighting. Plots of these films often feature mystery, crime, corruption and drama with staple characters such as a detective, an anti hero and a femme fatale to name a few.
Work does not have to be focused on film noir but that could be a good place to start for inspiration.
Working with a minimal colour palette or just black and white can be tricky, but we hope you are up for the challenge!
Art can be of any medium or style, traditional painting and illustration, print, ceramic & sculpture, textiles, collage, digital.
We do not accept AI generated art in our exhibitions
Please read through entry guidelines opposite before submitting.
