ARTISTS / Judith Towle-Jones

Judith is a Welsh artist now based in Oxfordshire.  She spent her childhood in a small village to the south edge of Llangynidr Moors. In addition to the high altitude there was little tree cover in the village, a legacy of the area’s industrial past, which meant conditions could be bleak, especially in winter.

She thinks it is these early experiences which have led to her current fascination with changing conditions and how they sculpt and mold the landscape.

Her village was sandwiched between the Welsh Coalfield to the south and the beauty and splendour of the Brecon Beacons National Park to the north. The marked contrast between these two environments held a fascination for her from an early age and she believes they played an important part in forging her passion for painting and her interest in landscapes in particular.

Judith uses a variety of media including water colour, acrylic, and, more recently, oils, which she has used in the past but has now switched to water soluble oils. She also uses dry media such as pastel, charcoal, graphite etc, often in mixed media work.
