Meet the Artist: Julie Davies

Artist Julie Davies will be here in the gallery this Saturday if you’d like to meet and and chat to her about her work

Julie Davies: Heart of the Valleys

Julie was born and brought up in the Ogmore Valley, which may be found at the heart of the South Wales mining valleys, north of Bridgend.

She has always had an interest in art from an early age and has enjoyed painting as a hobby, drawing inspiration from the landscape surrounding her home.

Naturally with her Welsh background, some of the artists whose work has inspired her are from Wales, such as Kyffin Williams, Kevin Sinnott, Shani Rhys James and Bert Evans. Since her retirement as a ward manager at the Angelton mental health unit in 2019, she has enjoyed developing her artistic skills using various styles. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic she has returned to working bank shifts at the hospital to help out due to staff shortages. Currently she has developed a number of Valley and Welsh Reflections mainly through the medium of acrylic.

Thank you for this inspiring artist feature. It was fascinating to learn more about Julie Davies, her creative journey, and the influences behind her work. The way you explained the background and artistic process was very clear and engaging. I recently came across a similar discussion on a review blog while reading content related to https://www.sherwaytrilliumdental.ca/, and it offered an interesting perspective as well. Showcasing artists in this way helps readers develop a deeper appreciation for the creativity and dedication behind each piece.

Really enjoyed learning more about Julie Davies and her creative journey. It’s always interesting how artists talk about finding balance and staying inspired over the long term, since creativity takes real mental and physical energy. I’ve noticed that many creatives quietly focus on daily habits like nutrition and routine to support their work, especially when juggling projects. I recently came across a practical guide on building simple, protein-rich meals that support focus and stamina, which felt surprisingly relevant while reading this feature. If anyone’s curious about that angle, this article explains it in a very down-to-earth way https://bestwrites.com/

Love seeing artists share their journey like this-hearing how Julie develops her ideas and texture makes me think about how traditional art is crossing into digital spaces too. A lot of creators are now turning illustrations and sculptures into printable 3D pieces, which opens up wild possibilities for reproducing detailed surfaces and layered forms. I’ve been experimenting with a slicer that handles complex models really smoothly, especially for artistic prints: https://orcaslicer.pro/
